Dear
Parents & Students;
The arrival of three more boxes of
costumes during vacation is a
reminder that the performance is
getting closer and closer. We were
delighted when nearly all of the costumes
arrived a month early this year, and that
most were a perfect fit!
On behalf
of the faculty & staff, a most sincere
and heartfelt thank you to everyone who
donated a holiday gift to the Children
& Family Agency of Southeastern
Connecticut on our behalf. Know
your gifts brightened the holiday for many
less fortunate friends and were deeply
appreciated.
We extend
a warm welcome to all our dancers who
joined our new classes in January. We
hope you have a great time in class!
Best
wishes,
Maggie

COSTUME
CARE TIPS
Here are some
tips to keep your costume in the best condition
for the performance.
1.
Hang your costume in a clean, dry place to allow
wrinkles to fall out. If the costume is still
wrinkled, hang it in the bathroom while a hot,
steamy shower is running. Do not put your
costume in water!
2.
Tutus
should be stored hanging upside down to maintain the
upright shape of the skirt.
3.
Alterations may be needed. Some straps are
adjustable, and other need to be sewn to fit the
dancer. Be sure your dancer can get the straps on
and off easily (ie the straps are not sewn too
tight.)
4.
Do
not dry clean your costume unless the
cleaner can assure you the costume will not be
damaged. Some
dry cleaning chemicals take the color out of
sequins & damage the material.
5. Do
not iron, heat, or use steam on or near sequin
trim; this will dull the shine and/or
melt the sequins. Ironing is NOT
recommended, however, if you choose to iron your
costume, turn it inside out and use a luke warm
iron.
6. It
is EXTREMELY important to write your full name
inside all pieces of your costume, including
accessories, tights and shoes. Use
the tag; do not write directly on the fabric.
7. Wear
your new tights for photographs, dress rehearsal
and the performance only. Do not wear them to
your weekly dance class. If you forgot to
order tights, see the desk staff.
8.
Emergency Costume Kit: Pack these items in your
dance bag for rehearsals & the performance:
Thread in basic colors, needle, scissors, safety
pins, makeup remover, extra shoe laces, elastics
or ribbons, clear nail polish, nail polish
remover, fray check, extra tights.
9.
A nude camisole leotard under the costume is
recommmended for all pre-teen to adult dancers.
The dressing rooms do not have private stalls so
the camisole offers some personal privacy.
We have some extra adult nude camisoles (see the
desk staff), or order at www.discountdance.com
using our Teacher Code #TP28607.
10.
See the faculty for instructions on
hairpieces which are usually placed on the left side
of the dancer's head or bun.
11. Last,
but certainly not least, dancers traditionally do
not wear underpants under costumes so that panty
lines and colors do not show through. To prepare for
performance day, it is a good idea for your dancer
to practice attending her weekly class
without underpants under her tights. In
the past, we have found that explaining to
young dancers that a leotard is like a bathing suit
and the idea that going to dance class is like
going to the beach are very helpful. If the dancer
is still uncomfortable, a nude camisole (see
#9) is recommended with the tights worn over
it.

Tights
Please be sure to try on your
performance tights asap. Check all tights for
runs, holes & defects. Many thanks! |

Makeup
Classes
All
students are welcome and encouraged to make up
classes missed for any reason (sickness, inclement
weather, school functions, etc.) in a class other
than one in which the student is registered. Make
ups should be taken in the same or lower level class
as the student's present class. See the desk staff
or faculty for recommendations. Students
may take makeup classes only for their own absences. Make-up
classes must be taken/completed by the end of the
month following the absence (i.e. absences in February
can be made up through the month of March) and
during the same semester as the absence. Absences
during the last two weeks of 1st semester may be
made up in February if the student is registered for
the class for 2nd semester.
Be
sure to check in at the desk before taking your
makeup class.

What
day is the performance?
We have two performances Saturday & Sunday, May
22nd & 23rd at 5 pm at Waterford High School.
Most children perform one day - either
Saturday or Sunday. Most teens &
adults perform both days.
The program order and a
chart listing what day your class performs is
posted at the studio.
While at the studio:
1. Check the spelling of your dancer's name so
it will appear correctly in the program. Give
changes to the desk staff.
2. Check the chart to determine which
day(s) your class(es) performs or ask the desk
staff.
